Mexico to table counter proposal on US Nafta auto content demand

Mexico will be taking a counter proposal on a controversial US suggestion about auto rules of origin to Nafta talks in Washington when they resume on May 7 and says an agreement in principle on updating the pact is possible within a couple of weeks, provided all sides show “creativity and flexibility,” according to Ildefonso Guajardo, Mexico’s economy minister.

Navarro ‘clarifies’ Section 232 plans, says all exempt countries will be hit with quotas

Peter Navarro, assistant to the president for trade and manufacturing policy, on Tuesday said all countries spared from the Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will be hit with quotas “or other restrictions” -- and that the 30-day extensions granted to some early this week will be the last.
